Primary foreign languages national curriculum expectations in England: implications for practice from the Ofsted curriculum research review for languages and the 24 languages subject inspections

This paper considers the implications for teachers and teaching of Ofsted Curriculum Research Review Languages [Ofsted. 2021. OCRR Series: Languages. Published 7 June Available online series: languages – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). Accessed 8 2021.] (OCRR) content 24 Subject Inspections (LSI) in primary school foreign language provision carried out between October 2019 March 2020. It illuminates practice by a single (FL) specialist. Her is compared contrasted to new guidance National requirements English schools. research adopts phenomenological exploratory or discovery case study approach data collection tools that respond this overall design: Semi-structured interviews, informal conversations, emails, planning documentary analysis review children’s work. The findings show there are myriad factors which affect how delivered schools, including number graduates, teachers’ workloads curriculum time. concludes considering challenges other teachers, not same situation as FL teacher research, would have overcome, without additional time funding also meet these requirements.
